The Story Behind IFM
A Personal Financial Awakening
After graduating from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, I spent nearly a decade as a journalist with Business India Magazine.
Despite my years in financial journalism, I realized only after the birth of my second child that I had only a very basic understanding of how to actually manage and invest my own money.
Until then, most of my family’s financial decisions were handled by my husband and our financial planner. Attending those meetings felt overwhelming—filled with jargon and the embarrassment of not understanding.
That discomfort pushed me to start learning. I began reading, asking questions, and slowly studying the fundamentals of investing. Over time, I became an active and equal participant in our family’s financial planning.
A Moment on a Girls’ Trip
The idea for Investing for Mummies came unexpectedly on a girls’ trip, when I explained a financial concept to a friend using a simple everyday example.
My friend looked at me and said, “That totally made sense the way you explained it. You should do this for other women too.” That moment planted the seed.
I began to think about how many intelligent, capable women felt the same hesitation around investing—women who are confident and accomplished in every other area of life, yet feel unsure and overwhelmed when the conversation turns to money.
Making Investing Approachable
Today, Investing for Mummies is my initiative dedicated to empowering women through financial literacy.
My goal is to make investing approachable by using simple language, relatable everyday analogies, visual explanations, and interactive learning tools.
By breaking down complex financial ideas into concepts that are easy to understand, I help more women feel confident participating in the financial decisions that shape their families’ futures.
My hope is to share what I have learnt with other women and mothers who may feel the same fears I once did — to create a space where investing is explained simply, where questions are welcomed, and where women can begin to approach their financial future with the same confidence and determination that they bring to every other part of their lives.
